Geothermal System Design - Prince George, BC

Earth Fire Energy offers accredited Geothermal Heating and Cooling System Design and Installations. We are based out of Prince George, BC and will travel to surrounding areas in Central and Northern BC.

We believe that not all geothermal heating and cooling systems are created equally!

There are three important factors that are critical to a successful geothermal heating and cooling system: the right (Nordic) geothermal heat pump, a properly designed geothermal ground exchanger, and an efficiently sized distribution system.

Site Visit - Planning for a Geothermal System in BC

The initial step before a quote for a Geothermal Heating and Cooling System can be prepared is to schedule a site visit. A site visit will allow us to determine what geothermal energy exchange system options are applicable (open loop geo system vs. closed loop geo system). During the site visit we will evaluate your property by taking note of terrain, geology (soil conditions), underground services, property size, house size, and proposed locations for future aspirations.  We will be able to determine what type of Geothermal Heating and Cooling System is best suited for your property.

Geothermal Design

In order to design your geothermal heating and cooling system, we will need to determine the building dimensions and establish the existing or proposed insulation values. The thermal resistance values (R-values) of a building are determined by the type and thickness of insulation. In addition, we will also need to know the owner's wishes regarding the distribution system (ie. hydronic, forced air, or both) within the house.

With this information, we will determine:

  • The building’s heat loss and heat gain.
  • The appropriate size and type of geothermal heat pump.
  • The design and configuration of a ground exchanger based on the local soil type and what fits within the available space.
  • The size of circulation pumps.

All of these components are important in ensuring that your geothermal system works properly. A properly designed Geothermal Heating and Cooling System is able to handle 100% of the heating load that is required for a home in Central and Northern BC.

Comparison of Heating Systems

The finalized pricing will be submitted, along with a cost comparison of other heating systems.  We will compare the operating costs of a geothermal heating and cooling system with typical natural gas and electric heating systems, predicted yearly operating cost of your proposed geothermal system, and calculated payback period in order to verify the benefits of a geothermal energy exchange heating system in BC.

Contract for a Geothermal System Design and Install

By signing and returning the contract with a modest deposit, we will be entering into a relationship of mutual respect and commitment.

Construction of a Geothermal System

Geothermal Ground Loops - Prince George, BC

We will work with you to develop a schedule that can meet both of our needs, so that we are able to quickly complete the construction of your new geothermal heating and cooling system. However, unforeseen circumstances do occur, and the weather can be unpredictable in BC; please be patient during construction of your geo system.

A typical geothermal heating and cooling system can be installed within 5 or 6 days.

During construction of your geothermal heating and cooling system, we want to be accommodating to your needs. We are flexible in having you select your own excavator/drilling contractor or we can recommend a company that we have built a relationship with in Prince George, BC.
